Joie de Vivre Folk Dancer's Workshops:

Beginner-level workshops were presented by local folk dance teachers from the diverse cultures that live in Ottawa.  All ages and all cultures are always welcome as our goal is to build a community - a village feel- with each workshop.

Summer 2010 Folk Dance Workshop Series

June 14th:
Valerie Susak and Adriana Basar, from Croatoan Folklore Ensemble, taught dances from Croatia.  There was live music by members of their tamburitza band!  Their workshop last winter was so outstanding we had to have them back!

June 28
Aram Adjemian taught Armenian dances. Aram danced extensively in Montreal, first with Ludwig Bulghadaryan; he regularly assisted teaching  workshops with both adult and children’s groups.

July 12
Andrzej Borowiec, director of Polanie Folk Dance Group in Ottawa, shared some Polish dances.

July 26 
Dansez en Francais introduced traditional dances of France.  Lyne Parent taught.

August 9   And for the grand finale Alyona Nesibyans taught us Turkmen dances!!!  Alyona was a semi-professional dancer in Turkmenistan and a member of the Armenian community there.

February 15    Croatian with Visnja Beg
March 8    Sri Lankan with Ruki Gunesekara

July 5: a medley of easy national dances, Marcel Pronovost teaching.

July 12: Thai country dances with Kai Whitcomb, director of the Thai Dance Troupe of Ottawa

July 19: Bollywood, with Sonia Rossington

July 26: Turkish Folk Dance with Karensa

August 9: Mexican, with Zuleyka Erazo Varela, Mexican Folk Artist Director of Viva Mexico

August 16: Argentinian, with Bertha Foulkes (NOT TANGO!)
